Palace of Versailles

The Palace of Versailles is a great day trip, or even just half a day, from Paris. You can take a break from the busy city and stroll through the gardens for hours and explore the beautiful interior of the palace. The palace is also listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site.

Just to warn you, there’s often a long line to get in to the Palace of Versailles. This is mostly due to their security check, which can make you feel like you’re waiting to get through security at the airport. Try to avoid visiting during the summer, as it can get muggy and overly crowded.

You could spend hours wandering through the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. There’s even a maze within the gardens, and you never know what statue or other feature you may come across.

It can be rather difficult to take good photographs inside the palace. The large crowds that are often there certainly don’t help.

Tips for Visiting:

  • The Palace of Versailles can be easily reached from Paris by train. Take a short train ride on the RER line C to the Versailles Rive Gauche station. From there, it’s just a short walk to the palace.
  • Buy your tickets in advance online to save some time. There are several different ticket options.
  • From March to October, there are Musical Fountain Shows on select days.
