The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the world, so of course we would spend the entire day there. The highlight of our day at the aquarium was, of course, seeing the Whale Shark. In fact, they actually had 4 whale sharks. The Georgia Aquarium is actually the only aquarium in the Western Hemisphere that has them. The other aquariums in the world that have whale sharks are in Japan, China, and Taiwan.
Some other of my favorite exhibits there were the otters, beluga whale, and the penguins. At the penguin exhibit, there’s a little tunnel you can go in so you can look right in the middle of all the penguins.
Shows
Another thing I should mention for those who might want to take a trip to the Georgia Aquarium is if you like Dolphin shows, there is a pretty good one here called Dolphin Tales. Be sure to get to the show 30-45 minutes before it starts to get a good seat. Just one piece of advice, don’t sit in the first few rows unless you want to get soaked. It’s definitely called the soak zone for a reason. Of course, me being the one in the group who wanted to sit there the least got soaked the most. Here’s what we looked like after the show.
Lastly, if you want a cool picture that looks like you’re almost in the tank, there’s a little indention in one of the walls that you can sit and/or stand in.
Mobile App
The Georgia Aquarium offers a mobile app to help visitors explore the aquarium. The app features information about the many marine animals in the exhibits, audio tours, updates for shows, and much more. You can also load your tickets to the app, allowing you to just scan them from your phone at the entrance.
